Product Overview

The HM12-UC1 is a dry ceramic capacitive pressure sensor manufactured by German HELM using 99.99% high-purity alumina ceramic. As part of the strategic partnership between HELM and HMK, this OEM sensor element brings German precision engineering to industrial pressure measurement applications worldwide. The UC1 variant features an analog millivolt output optimized for integration into custom pressure transmitter designs.

Unlike conventional diffused silicon or metal-foil sensors that require oil-fill isolation, the HM12-UC1 employs a dry ceramic diaphragm that directly contacts the process media. This eliminates the risk of fill-fluid leakage and contamination — a critical advantage in food, pharmaceutical, and medical applications where media purity is essential. The ceramic material is inherently corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, and immune to shock and vibration damage.

With measurement ranges from as low as 0.5 kPa (micro-pressure) up to 7 MPa, and overload protection reaching 200× full scale on low ranges, the HM12-UC1 solves the traditional weakness of micro-pressure sensors — poor overload tolerance. The standardized 4500 mV high-level output provides excellent signal-to-noise ratio and interference immunity, making it the preferred OEM sensing element for manufacturers including E+H, ABB, Honeywell, Emerson, and VEGA in their industrial pressure transmitter product lines.

Frequently Asked Questions

The HM12-UC1 provides a standard analog millivolt output (500–4500 mV) suitable for integration with external signal conditioning circuits. The HM12-UC7 is a newer variant that adds a digital interface (UART or SPI) alongside the analog output, enabling digital calibration and direct microcontroller communication. Choose the UC1 for traditional analog designs and the UC7 when you need digital connectivity.

Yes. The HM12-UC1 is available in gauge, absolute, and compound pressure configurations. Compound ranges include ±2.5 kPa, ±10 kPa, and ±100 kPa, allowing both positive and negative pressure measurement with a single sensor element.

Ceramic capacitive sensors offer three key advantages: (1) No fill fluid means zero contamination risk for food and pharmaceutical media, (2) The ceramic diaphragm provides dramatically higher overload protection (up to 200× FS vs. typically 2–3× for silicon), and (3) Superior long-term stability with minimal drift. The trade-off is that ceramic sensors typically have lower frequency response than silicon sensors.

The HM12-UC1 outputs a ratiometric millivolt signal (500–4500 mV at 5 VDC supply) that can be read directly by most 24-bit ADCs. For 4–20 mA loop-powered transmitter designs, pair the sensor with a standard signal conditioning ASIC. The 10:1 range turndown capability means you can use a single hardware platform to cover multiple pressure ranges through software calibration.
