Product Overview

The HM12-UC2 is a glass-bonded welded ceramic capacitive pressure sensor manufactured by German HELM. Unlike the bare-die UC1 variant, the UC2 features a welded stainless steel isolation diaphragm that encapsulates the Welded stainless steel isolation diaphragm over 99.99% alumina ceramic sensing element, providing direct media isolation for aggressive process fluids. As part of the strategic partnership between HELM and HMK, this welded OEM sensor element brings German precision engineering to applications where media compatibility and process safety are paramount.

The welded construction of the HM12-UC2 combines the advantages of ceramic capacitive sensing — no oil fill, no contamination risk, exceptional overload protection — with the chemical resistance and mechanical protection of a stainless steel diaphragm. The UC2 employs a dry ceramic diaphragm behind the welded SS isolation layer, eliminating the risk of fill-fluid leakage while providing robust media separation. This makes it inherently suitable for food, pharmaceutical, and chemical process applications where media purity and sensor durability are equally critical. The ceramic material is corrosion-resistant, wear-resistant, and immune to shock and vibration damage.

With measurement ranges from 5 kPa up to 7 MPa, and overload protection reaching 200× full scale on low ranges, the HM12-UC2 is engineered for demanding OEM applications. The welded stainless steel diaphragm provides a hermetic seal between the process media and the ceramic sensing element, making it suitable for corrosive gases, contaminated liquids, and high-humidity environments where a bare ceramic element would be insufficient. The standardized 4500 mV full-scale output with internal signal conditioning and temperature compensation simplifies integration with standard ADC and signal conditioning circuits.

Frequently Asked Questions

The HM12-UC1 is a bare ceramic die — a raw sensing element without housing or media isolation. The HM12-UC2 is a welded element variant that glass-bonds the ceramic sensor to a stainless steel isolation diaphragm, providing direct media separation. Both output analog millivolt signals (500–4500 mV), but the UC2 offers superior media compatibility for corrosive or contaminated environments. Choose the UC1 for clean, non-aggressive media where direct ceramic contact is acceptable, and the UC2 when you need robust media isolation.

Yes. The HM12-UC2 is available in gauge, absolute, and compound pressure configurations. Compound ranges include ±2.5 kPa, ±10 kPa, and ±100 kPa, allowing both positive and negative pressure measurement with a single sensor element.

The welded stainless steel isolation diaphragm makes the UC2 ideal for applications involving mildly corrosive media, contaminated fluids, or high-humidity environments. Common use cases include chemical process monitoring, water treatment, HVAC systems with refrigerants, food and beverage processing lines, and pharmaceutical production where the sensor must withstand regular CIP/SIP cleaning cycles. The UC2 is also preferred when long-term reliability in harsh environments outweighs the need for the lowest possible measurement uncertainty.

The HM12-UC2 outputs a ratiometric millivolt signal (500–4500 mV at 5 VDC supply) that can be read directly by most 24-bit ADCs. For 4–20 mA loop-powered transmitter designs, pair the sensor with a standard signal conditioning ASIC. The 10:1 range turndown capability means you can use a single hardware platform to cover multiple pressure ranges through software calibration.
