HE26 Ceramic Capacitive Pressure Sensor

Product Overview

The HE26 Ceramic Capacitive Pressure Sensor/Transmitter is part of the HE series, engineered as a modular, OEM-standard industrial measurement instrument by HMK. It employs variable capacitance technology with a high-purity alumina (Al₂O₃) ceramic substrate, where process pressure acts directly on the ceramic diaphragm. The capacitance between the base electrode and diaphragm electrode changes proportionally with applied pressure, eliminating the need for oil-fill transfer fluids found in traditional piezoresistive sensors.

A key advantage of the ceramic capacitive design is its inherent overload protection. When overpressured, the diaphragm contacts the ceramic base without damage — once pressure returns to normal, performance remains unaffected. This provides overload capability up to 20x full scale on low ranges (3x on higher ranges), making the HE26 an ideal upgrade from diffused silicon and ceramic piezoresistive sensors that suffer from limited overload tolerance.

The ceramic diaphragm offers excellent chemical compatibility with most liquids, gases, and steam (compatible with Al₂O₃ and 1Cr18Ni9Ti media), combined with high thermal stability across -40 to 125°C media temperature. With typical accuracy of ±0.4% FS, resolution of 0.01% FS, and long-term stability of ±0.15% FS/year, the HE26 delivers reliable measurements across pressure ranges from 10 kPa to 4 MPa with multiple output options including 4-20mA, 0-5V, and 0.5-4.5V.

Key Features

Exceptional Overload Protection

Up to 20x full-scale overload on low ranges — the ceramic diaphragm contacts the base without damage, recovering full performance once pressure normalizes. Eliminates burst-risk common in piezoresistive sensors.

Superior Corrosion Resistance

High-purity alumina ceramic diaphragm is chemically inert — compatible with most corrosive liquids, gases, and steam. No oil-fill means no risk of media contamination or seal failure.

Wide Temperature Range

Operates reliably from -40°C to +125°C media temperature with ±0.015% FS/°C temperature drift. Compensated across -40 to 100°C for consistent accuracy in extreme environments.

Ultra-Long Service Life

Rated for over 100 million pressure cycles at 10-90% FS. The all-ceramic sensing element has no moving seals or oil-fill to degrade, delivering maintenance-free operation year after year.

Flexible Output Options

Choose from 4-20mA (2-wire), 1-5V, 0-5V, or 0.5-4.5V outputs to match your existing control infrastructure. Standard 9-30V DC supply for current output and 12-30V DC for voltage.

Industrial-Grade Robustness

Withstands 10g vibration (IEC 60068-2-6) and 100g/10ms shock (IEC 60068-2-27). IP67 cable-type protection enables reliable operation in harsh industrial environments.

Applications

Industrial Process Control

Monitor and regulate pressure in manufacturing pipelines, reactors, and automated process lines. The ceramic sensor’s corrosion resistance and 10 kPa–4 MPa range handle diverse process media without degradation.

Automotive Testing

Precision pressure monitoring in automotive test benches — engine oil, coolant, and brake system testing. The 5 ms response time and 100 million cycle life ensure reliable data collection across extended test campaigns.

Food & Pharmaceutical

The oil-free ceramic diaphragm eliminates media contamination risk in sanitary applications. Compatible with CIP cleaning agents and food-grade media, meeting strict hygiene requirements in processing environments.

Medical Equipment

Low-range pressure monitoring (10 kPa+) in medical devices and diagnostic equipment. The high overload tolerance protects the sensor during sterilization or accidental pressure spikes in sensitive medical systems.

Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems

Withstands pressure spikes and surges in hydraulic circuits and pneumatic lines. The 20x overload capacity on low ranges provides a critical safety margin that piezoresistive sensors cannot match.

HVAC & Building Automation

Low-range pressure sensing for air handling systems, clean room monitoring, and building management. The 0.5-4.5V ratiometric output integrates directly with common BMS controllers.

Frequently Asked Questions

The HE26 uses a ceramic capacitive sensing element, while the HE10 uses diffused silicon piezoresistive technology. The key differences are: (1) the HE26 offers far superior overload protection — up to 20x FS on low ranges versus 2-3x for piezoresistive types; (2) the HE26’s ceramic diaphragm is inherently corrosion-resistant to most media without oil-fill; (3) the HE10 typically provides higher accuracy (±0.25% FS vs ±0.4% FS). Choose the HE26 when overload protection and media compatibility are critical, or the HE10 when maximum accuracy is the priority.

The HE26 is available in both gauge (G) and absolute (A) pressure configurations. For vacuum measurement, select the absolute pressure type which can measure from 0 bar absolute. For gauge/vacuum combined applications, consider the HE27 Vacuum/Absolute Pressure Sensor which is specifically designed for vacuum and sealed-gauge measurements.

Choose based on your control system: 4-20mA (code A1) is the most common industrial standard — it’s noise-immune and works over long cable runs (9-30V DC supply). 0-5V (code V2) or 1-5V (code V1) suits direct ADC input on PLCs and data loggers. 0.5-4.5V (code V3) is the ratiometric standard for automotive and HVAC applications, allowing broken-wire detection at the 0V and 5V rails.

The HE26’s wetted parts are high-purity alumina ceramic (Al₂O₃) and 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel. This makes it compatible with most corrosive liquids, gases, and steam — including acids, alkalis, and solvents that would attack standard stainless steel diaphragms. The dry ceramic sensing element (no oil-fill) also eliminates any risk of process media contamination from silicone oil leakage.

Yes. For volume orders exceeding the minimum quantity threshold, custom configurations are available including non-standard pressure ranges, special process connections (F0 code), extended cable lengths, and custom calibration.
